“Morocco Were the Real Brazil” – Brazilian Media Turns on Ancelotti After Disappointing World Cup Start

Carlo Ancelotti needed just one World Cup match to find himself under intense pressure after Brazil’s uninspiring performance against Morocco sparked a wave of criticism from the national media, which argued that the Seleção looked far from the standard expected of a five-time world champion.

Morocco secured a 1-1 draw against Brazil in a highly anticipated group-stage clash, but the result itself was not the main source of concern. Instead, it was the manner of Brazil’s performance, particularly during the first half, when the Atlas Lions dominated midfield, created several dangerous opportunities, and appeared much closer to securing victory.

Many Brazilian analysts and media outlets agreed that Morocco were the better side for large portions of the match. Some commentators even suggested that Morocco displayed the identity and confidence traditionally associated with Brazil, while the Seleção struggled to impose its style on the game.

Brazilian outlet Itatiaia issued a warning following the match, claiming that Brazil was moving dangerously close to a crisis if performances failed to improve in the coming fixtures.

Journalist Fernando Kallás went even further, describing the opening 45 minutes as some of the worst he had witnessed from Brazil since the infamous 7-1 defeat against Germany in the 2014 World Cup semifinals.

Kallás singled out several players for criticism, arguing that Roger Ibañez, Igor Thiago, and Casemiro delivered performances well below expectations. He also questioned whether Raphinha should continue to enjoy untouchable status within the team.

Brazil’s defensive line received particularly harsh reviews, especially Roger Ibañez and Gabriel Magalhães, who struggled to cope with Morocco’s pace and direct attacking transitions throughout the match.

Ancelotti’s tactical decisions also came under scrutiny. Several observers argued that the Italian coach made questionable choices regarding player selection and defensive organization, factors they believe contributed significantly to Brazil’s difficulties.

Journalist Gary de Jesus claimed that the honeymoon period surrounding Ancelotti’s arrival had already come to an end. According to him, the Italian faced his first major test as Brazil coach and failed to provide convincing answers.

He described the opening thirty minutes as painful for Brazilian supporters, arguing that the team lacked identity, control, and confidence, while Morocco appeared organized, disciplined, and fully committed to its tactical plan.

Despite the criticism, Ancelotti attempted to downplay the significance of the result, insisting that the tournament remains in its early stages and that Brazil still has time to correct its mistakes.

Attention now shifts to Brazil’s next match against Haiti, which could prove crucial for both the coach and the team. Another disappointing performance would almost certainly intensify the pressure and fuel further doubts about Brazil’s ability to challenge for the World Cup title.

While Moroccan fans celebrated an impressive display against one of football’s traditional giants, Brazil was left facing uncomfortable questions and growing concern about what lies ahead in the tournament.
